Oh boy!
Who is famous in Canada, besides me? I would say Celine Dion, the famous singer now residing in Montreal, Quebec.
What is the most popular sport? Hockey for sure. Everybody plays and watch hockey. If you are not a hockey fan, you are not a Canadian.
What is the most popular movie? Canada does not proce famous movies, however, movie crews like to come to either Vancouver or Toronto to shoot their movies because of lower costs and a beautiful environment.
Who are the Canadians? Most of them are English and French. There are about 15% of the Canadians from a diverse backgrounds. There are about 1 million Chinese Canadians residing in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.
There are 3 levels of government: Federal, Provincial and Municipal. The Prime Minister is now Steven Harper, a young man of 48 years of age, from Alberta.
Guess what! Canada has lots of oil and diamond reserve. Alberta has lots of oil sand, while Ontario is the instrial zone.
Canada is cold. Except Vancouver and Victoria in British Columbia, the country is cold. In Toronto, winter can be as cold as minus 30 degree and snow covered days 120 days per year.
That's it for now. If you need more, I will write more for your 50 points.
Just tell me what you want to know.
Updated May 14, 2007:
In fact, it is not difficult to google your questions for more information. Anyhow, below is my observation of Canada.
Climate wise, I would say there are about 5 different zones:
1. British Columbia is blocked by the Rockies in the west, so the westerly wind from the Pacific brings in warm and moist air, making southern BC is the warmest but the wettest part of Canada.
2. Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba (the west) has continental climate, i.e. hot summer and cold winter. The area is relatively dry but in winter there is lots of snow.
3. Ontario and Quebec (southern part only) has a temperate climate, not as hot in the summer and not as cold in the winter as the west. Summer can reach mid 20s and winter minus mid 20s. There are extreme days to go up to plus and minus 30s.
4. New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island belong to the maritime province. Summer is warm and winter cool. There is lots of snow in the winter though.
5. The 3 territories in the north and the northern part of all provinces, except the maritime, belong to the tundra climate - long cold winter with lots of snow and cool summer. This area is much colder than Dongbei in China.
The second part is a brief introction of Canada. I dont know how to start.
Put it this way, Canada started with the native, i.e. people from the First Nations who most sociologists believe are from Asia. British and French came, forming the Upper and Lower Canada, now Ontario and Quebec. Scottish came to Nova Scotia which means New Scotland.
In a nutshell, Canada has mainly English and French speaking population. Since 1970s, because of the Liberals policy, there was an influx of massive new immigrants.
Early immigrants were from Europe including Italians, Portuguese and Germans. Later, the blacks from Jamaica and Trindad arrived. In early 90s, we saw lots of Hong Kong Chinese and in the past few years, lots from China.
New immigrants stay in new cities like Toronto, Quebec and Vancouver. The country remains a very "white" society.
Take care. Bye for now.
