Genji is the prince of the emperor, his mother died when he was young so the emperor decided to give him the name Genji, which means the source as a representation of his love toward Genji.
Fujitsubo is one the emperor's wives, she looked resemble to his mother that's part of the reason why Genji fall in love with her.
Aoi is Genji's wife, she died under Lady Rokujo's curse after she gave birth to Genji's son.
Murasaki is a girl raised by Genji who looked exactly the same as Fujitsubo. Genji kidnapped her to let her grown up as the perfect wife in his mind.

个人感觉现在的翻译水平参差不齐，即使是英语专业本身出来的，也要看他翻译什么类型的。小说方面想做到”信”可,“达”勉强，“雅”的话没有个深厚的国学底子，遣词不琢磨，用句太捉急，那真是急得我两眼泪汪汪～
况且现在功利社会人心浮躁，不说以前的翻译家也是国学大师，往近点说，源氏物语的译者是曾说过说她翻译这套书前前后后用了十年多的时间，而现在能有几个人能静下心来查阅大量资料储备背景知识琢磨原作者的深层用意然后下笔战战兢兢的？
什么意思呢？也就是说如果你业余玩票，自己翻译翻译就当练手，但是给别人看涉及卖钱这还真是个大大的责任问题了。
