1.如果说拍手叫好,欢迎某人或某事,两个单词的意思是一样的.
The children applauded afer each performance.
The children clapped after each performance.
2.applaud还有同意,通过某个决定.
We all applauded his decision.
3.在口语中,如果说"让我们为xxx的精彩表演热烈鼓掌,却很少用这"clap" or "applaud" 两个词.习惯上人们喜欢说

"Let's give them a big round of applause." (名词)

clap:1:to bring (one's open hands)together with a quick movement and loud sound ,esp.to show approvel of a performance
