英名：【Carambola】。别名：【羊桃】、【星星果】、【五敛子】、【五稜子】。杨桃醡酱草科(Averrhoaceae)五敛子属(Averrhoa)常绿小乔木植物，其果实上有5稜凸起，横切面呈现星形，故又名星星果(star fruit)、五稜子、五敛子等。
杨桃原产於马来半岛至摩洛加群岛一带，台湾自清朝由广东、福建两地引入；新竹地区最早开始生产，再陆续扩展至苗栗、宜兰、员林、台南等地。1960年代后，发现住优实生变异品系【二林】、【秤锤】后，开始有商业化栽培。目前主要外销地区为：【香港】、【美国】、【新加坡】、【加拿大】。
果实呈长椭圆形，属浆果，成熟时果皮有绿白色、黄绿色、金*、桔红色等；种子褐色，种子数3-25粒不等。
