The state where I now stay is called Kentucky; it is located in the east central region of the United  States. West Virginia lies to the east, so does Virginia, Tennessee  to the south, Missouri to the west with the Mississippi as the border line. To the north, it is separated by the Ohio River from Illinois,Indiana and Ohio.

With an area of 104844 sq. km, it is the 37th most extensive state in the U.S., the capital is Frankfort. Kentucky has a mild climate with a moderate temperature all year round. The average temperature of the whole state in January is 3°C; and 25.3°C in July. The average annual rainfall in Louisville is 109 cm. Kentucky usually has not much snowfalls except in the mountainous regions. On the first of April 1792, Kentucky became the 15th state to join the Union. There are many picturesque scenic spots in the state such as the Cumberland Falls, Red River Gorge etc. Its official sate bird is cardinal.

It is interesting to note that Kentucky was one of the border states ring the American Civil War; and the north President Abraham Lincoln and the south President Jefferson Davis were both hailed from Kentucky. By the way, KFC also comes from Kentucky.
