你的及楼上几位的句子,问题不只是不够"academic"。有些表达也用得不地道。
1. 疑问句的语序错了。一楼这点改得对。
2. would like to意思是想要做什么。这样说即使翻译成中文也不通。你想说的是愿意,英文是would be willing to。
3. pay more money to get something啰嗦吧?这年头还有不用钱买的东西吗?pay for something是现成的英语短语,中间加上more就行了。
4. 定语从句前面要有that。口语中可以省略但是论文可不行。
5. 在口语中if和whether可以互换,但是正式文件中两者的区别一定要搞清楚。if表示条件:他们不确定如果他们用(你看这意思偏到哪儿去了?)。whether表示两种可能:用或不用。为了更清楚,甚至可以加上or not。
改过后的全句是:
Why would someone be willing to pay more for something that they are not sure whether (or not) they will ever use it?
再改得更地道些,把最后的部分改成被动语态:
Why would someone be willing to pay more for something that they are not sure whether (or not) it will ever be used?
