哈哈这道题我做过我来答：

化简得：we reached what was where we have been
我们到达了我们现在在的地方（老实说这句话说的真TM罗嗦！）
After several hours' drive 就不说了
其中 we thought 是插入语就像 ...I think...
what was where we have been 是reach 的宾语宾语从句！
而这个宾语从句中又套了一个表语从句where we have been

整句话连起来翻译就是：我想我们现在站的地方大概是到了我们应该到的地方了吧——委婉的真TM罗嗦

1 what 是宾语从句的主语
2 不能你理解成thought的宾语根本就讲不通！句子就断不开了！
we thought 是插入语
3 或者你这样调整语序：
After several hours' drive ,we thought we reached what was where we have been

over! ！
