The Legend of Miyue Based off a popular online novel by Jiang Sheng Nan, tells the story of Mi Yue and her life entwined with politics, war and romance. Mi Yue, a real historical figure who lived ring the Warring States Period (475-221 BC), was the first empress dowager in China.

The Legend of Miyue details the legendary life of Mi Ba Zi, a young girl who lived in Chu ring the Warring States period. She was sent to Qin as a concubine and part of her sister Mi Shu’s dowry, separating her from first love Huang Xie. Ying Si passes away while his sons are still battling for the throne, and ultimately, Ying Dang comes out as the successor. Mi Yue is banished to Yan with her son. However, Ying Dang suddenly dies, leaving Qin in a state of chaos. Mi Yue enlists the help of Yi Qu of Xiongnu’s army, successfully returning to Qin, suppressing political revolts and instates her son Ying Ji on the throne. Thus, Mi Yue became the first Empress Dowager in China’s history.”

The 81-episode historical epic The Legend of Miyue started airing on Beijing Television and Shanghai's Dragon TV on Tuesday. At the same time, it went live on Tencent Video and LeTV.

@imalts2015 Obviously I’m really happy about the casting. I have full confidence in Sun Li’s ability to play the leading role. As for whether this drama will live up to Legend of Zhen Huan standards…I doubt it. I’ve given up on expecting another c-drama that will fill the void that Legend of Zhen Huan left behind. Yes, Legend of Mi Yue has a great cast, but sometimes even a great cast can’t save a drama if the script isn’t good. So In my opinion, it all depends on whether the story itself is interesting enough. One obvious disparity between the two dramas so far is that the costumes in Legend of Mi Yue don’t hold a candle to the ones in LZH!

【词汇解析】：hold a candle to sb
hold a candle就是手持蜡烛。习惯用语can't hold a candle to somebody 来自几百年前还没电灯，用蜡烛照明的年代。当时人们如果必须在黑夜步行前往某地，就会在街上雇佣个小伙子为自己拿蜡烛在前面照明引路。而剧场的舞台四周也有人手持蜡烛照明。这样人们才看得见台上演员的表演。为人hold candle 的就是手持蜡烛为他人照明的工作的人，hold a candle 因而被看作是不用脑筋而低人一等的差事。所以，如果 hold a candle 是低层工作，那么 can't hold a candle to somebody 的人就比不上 hold candle 的人了。所以can't hold a candle to somebody 意思是比某人差多了。
@smartboss Of course, comparisons between LZH and Legend of Mi Yue will be made. After all, both dramas are about a woman who becomes empress/empress dowager. According to Sun Li though, Zhen Huan and Mi Yue are two very different characters. She’s taking care to differentiate between the two in her performance and in the script.

@Wonderfulmomo The costumes, props and makeup of the Legend of MiYue was critized as flashy and gaudy by online historical buffs. Because 2300 years ago cloth dyeing techniques were very poor and impossible to have so many ranges of colors. The major colors used are pretty solumn and simple, namely red, black, white, gold. This perid there are over 80 famous historical figures that can be woven into the story . But if they don’t have a strong storyline, I believe it will be a disaster.

Hopefully the plotline is as good as LZH, been waiting awhile for a good period drama to finally come out. love the casting with sun li and jiang xin, they were wonderful in LZH so i’m looking forward to this drama. i don’t really like some of the costumes and hairstyles where it makes the characters look a bit gaudy。
