St. Albans School, founded in the autumn of 1909, traces its roots back to the legacy of Harriet Lane Johnston, niece of President James Buchanan. Johnston's vision was to establish a school for boys, offering scholarships and ecation within the National Cathedral Choir. Initially, the school housed only 59 boys, but today, St. Albans proudly accommodates nearly 570 boys, spanning from grades 4 to 12, with more than 20 of them contributing to the choir's musical excellence.
Over the years, the school's campus has significantly expanded to accommodate its growing population. Four teaching buildings, two gyms, two libraries, a theater, a dining area, dormitory apartments, six science laboratories, state-of-the-art computer facilities, three art studios, and an indoor swimming pool have been added. The core philosophy of St. Albans is to foster a warm and cohesive community, where teachers and students maintain close relationships, and a familial atmosphere prevails. The school operates under the belief that learning takes place in a challenging yet caring environment, rooted in the Catholic faith.
Each week, all students are required to attend church services as part of their spiritual development. At St. Albans, the curriculum is centered around Jesus Christ and his teachings, aiming to instill in boys a deep understanding and love for the Savior, along with a sense of moral responsibility. The school extends its open arms to students of different religious backgrounds, who come with a respect for their beliefs, under the guidance of its dedicated chaplains.
